Day Trippin - Daddy's Day Out

So I can't really remember the last Saturday i have had off and I anticipate the one i have off the 3rd Saturday of February Yippee!! I do enjoy working my little part time job and the fact that daddy gets to have his daughter days. So this particular Saturday, the husband actually planned a daddy playdate...Ah-MAZE-ing!! i think the amazing part was that he actually planned get this a playdate near the ULTA that I was working at way down in Centennial...how perfect I mean how amazing he actually remembered where I was working to cleverly plan this...ok must give him more credit...I usually get this question when I have to work "Well, what should we do today?"

He and a friend from work who just happens to have a 4 year old girl ALSO could this story not get any better LOL and planned to meet up at Lollipop Park. This is an indoor amusement park for little ones. Perfect for going with a friend so they can ride the train, teacups, ferris wheel, etc.

This was actually the second time the husband took the girl there to play. The first time they went, again I had to work but perfect place for them to go while i do my little thing either down at Park Meadows mall or the ULTA down the street.

The two girls clicked and played oh so nicely...and yes I will brag, my child will open her arms out to another person and welcome her into her little world without any hesitation (ahhh she is just like her mama)

We finally made it in for out wellness appointment...after first cancellation of the DR being sick, then a snowstorm hit and we couldn't get out of our drive way...we were only a month late...Since all the rescheduling we didn't get to see our regular DR but saw a new one at the office. He was a nice gentleman, tho she was a little shy as to be expected, but eased up and as a good patient let him examine her.

I couldn't remember the last time we had been to the doctor, but as soon as he started checking her ears it dawned on me the last time was when she had an ear infection wayyyy back in March. So happy we don't have to frequent the Dr's office and hope to continue that in 2012.

She is weighing in at a whopping 32.8lbs and has grown to 39" and hoping she will still get in free to waterworld this summer. She is growing and continuing to be the cutest thing ever in our eyes.

We went to our local childrens theater in Arvada...they do an awesome job and the theater is just the perfect size for little ones. Can't wait for the next musical coming in January

We went with all of our friends to the Nutcracker. Six 4 year olds 1 3 year old 6 moms 1 dad, and 1 grandma...

All the girls stayed awake and had me a little worried as they started getting antsy in the first act...but finally settled down and watched the entire ballet, I am amazed I didn't fall asleep...yes, I confess, I am a busy body and when I am in a dark theater I will most likely fall asleep...I stayed AWAKE!!

This is definately going to be a yearly tradition and now I have to sign this child up for ballet classes...she's been going since we got home

Again, we celebrated at the Don Vanarsdale Gymnastics Center...we LOVE this place!! Plus the girl does her classes there too, so it makes it extra special to be there!!

All the girls came in their best leotards and had lots of fun. We celebrated Hello Kitty style. I have had about enough of princess!! So this made me very happy to change from a Tangled party to Hello Kitty. She is already saying she wants an Arial party next year!! (hmmm maybe a pool party if we do that)

Yea we are in the spirit already...I blame retailers and well when I work I am already pointing out the wonderful Holiday body care philosophy has out...and even tho Nordstroms says they are not decorating for the holidays til November 25 they were the first retailer to put out our holiday gift sets..enough about my work..but seriously you ladies need to hit nordstroms, sephora, ulta and cherry creek macys to see out wonderful holiday stuff...super cute and smells delicious!! Ok now that I have plugged my work I now must plug SANTA HAS COME TO TOWN!! Yes, he's here the jolly ole little santa that flatirons mall has hired. He's a tiny ole fellow...way too skinny for a santa but oh well, it doesn't matter too much to 4 year olds they still love him!!

Well, back when my husband used to work for Comcast...we had an employee day at Elitch Gardens. Hey, it was free and got free lunch, so we had to go and check it out and was completely disappointed. We made it a day for Grace whatever SHE wanted to do...and well there wasn't much...granted we didn't do the water park because we thought there would be enough in the children's area to fill up our day...or at least most of it. But a good 4 hours and we were DONE!! Thank god this place was FREE for us because I think if we had to pay all the rediculous prices I would be more upset in this post. But now I know, SO NOT WORTH IT!!

So I have been trying different pizza crusts and finally found one we really like...of course its from Martha Stewart and used a recipe for the pizza sauce from our best bites...both were delicious.

We had our friend Tayler over for a playdate, so the girls got to make their own pizzas.

Our friend Kylie had her 4th birthday party...and well, there were a lot of 3/4 year olds super excited. It was a princess party.

Cinderella came all the way from her castle to celebrate Kylie's birthday. LOL that's the line she said to the girls who were just in AWE of this real life Cinderella!!

Last Saturday we took in everything FREE...

First Saturday of the month FREE kids clinic at Home Depot...this is usually the dad's outing, but Katie's dad has a job at the lake during the summer and Grace's dad was doing prep/study work for his new job. So it was the mama's that took the girls and well, we get pics of them doing the project and with their certificates

After that FREE event, we headed home for a little lunch and then met up with our other BFF's Sophie and her mom Natalie

The girls made fossils with clay made out of coffee grinds and flour at Whole Foods...the mommies scored a box of tea and a lb of coffee from Allegra

and after Whole Foods, we headed down to Invesco Fields for a FREE scrimmage game...our probably one and only time we will ever be at the stadium

Day Tripping - Tiny Town

We had a lot of visitors all in one weekend. My cousin and her family came to visit from Missouri and one of my good friends and her family from Washington. So we all along with my brother and his family headed to Tiny Town. This place was so cute. The 9 minute train ride was fun and the conductor didn't take turns too quickly for us to derail like it did last year, thank goodness. We had ice cream cones. Walked throught the tiny town and the kids had fun looking inside the little houses, and at the end was a great little park for the kids to play on or like my child get her leg stuck between the play structure and a rope she thought she could slide down (scary moment)

It was even really nice on a 95 degree afternoon. Lots of trees, so it made standing in the shade bearable:)

Mama's night out

This is all the new rage right now. Painting!! Seriously these places are popping up everywhere. And well since most of these gals got the groupon, they decided it was time for a MNO. I sadly did not purchase the groupon because I am a dumb ass sometimes and forget LOL but one of our missing mamas, gave me hers (she is a wonderful and giving person) and I got to go:)

We had a great time and tho this is to be fun, it completely brought out my inner perfectionism...I am my own worst critic. If you know the enneagram, I am a 1, I am also a double virgo, so my perfectionism runs deep in my veins. I was very quiet and concentrated on my lines and color and well those damn birds I knew were going to be a problem. But my 3 year old loves it and asked what kind of bird the blue one was, I just told her it was a silly bird and that she really liked the yellow bird.

I can't wait for me and the hubby to go and do this, he is way more artistic than I am.

Hail of Fun

We have had some crazy weather lately. Almost 2 weeks of thunderstorms straight every afternoon. This particular day we had 2 storms in one day. The first one Grace and I got caught inside the dollar store for 30 minutes and came home to soggy carpets upstairs because the windows were wide open (eh hem, its still 90+ degrees when it storms). The second one came in the early evening and this one brought lots of pea sized hail. That the girls decided it would be fun to play and throw at each other.

We had 5 inches of water covering our patio. So far my butternut squash has survived this and notice a squash growing.

Vacation Bible School

Don't worry friends, we did not change religions LOL The church where Grace goes to preschool, offered this Vacation Bible School for 4 days and all of our friends (some whom are not religious either) decided it would be fun to send all the girls. As a practicing Buddhist, I believe my daughter should know about all religions and be an open minded person. So far, she really hasn't learned a thing. I think the only thing she really likes is the video below.

I have asked her questions about what she is learning. In the newsletter they teach the kids everyday a "Secret Ingredient" every day after school I have asked her what the secret ingredient was and she keeps telling me its "sugar" when really the answer should be something like "Believe in God" or something like that...um yea I didn't read the newsletter that thoroughly...her friend Tayler said the secret ingredient was "Mac and cheese" really I think they just like being with all their buddies for 3 hours a day for 4 days

A month ago, we headed down to Colorado Springs. I have to say Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, is my favorite zoo.

After a fun filled day at the zoo, we headed to Manitou Springs. This is a really cute and charming town. We definately want to go back and spend a couple of days down in this part of Colorado as there are lots of things to do.

A show our family loves to watch is Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives...seriously we watch this as a family and my 3 1/2 year old loves it!! So, a recent show featured a place close to home. So of course we had to go and check it out. It is a small lunch place called Lauer Krauts...their specialty are these sandwiches filled with beef and their housemade saurkraut and you can choose from original, pepperjack cheese or american cheese and the bread is this dough that encases all the yumminess. Not really a sandwich but this yummy baked thing with beef in it. The husband got the original and I got the pepperjack and we both agreed the pepperjack was the best. Of course, the little one got the original too. Their desserts our housemade as well, but on Saturdays, they have what was leftover from the week. If you ever are in Brighton, this is a great kid place and the people are very friendly:)

So my husband and I are not religious...however, I am a practicing Buddhist and he says he was baptised Lutheran...so religious holidays are pretty much celebrated the Hallmark way...and every retailers dream...ya know by all the necessities to make children happy. So of course since we are the one and done couple, our dear daughter gets really spoiled, well as spoiled as one can on a super tight budget...just means that every week I can buy one thing to fill her basket...and well, I think i kept forgetting what I had bought so she got a lot of stuff...and of course forgot to put her singing card in that was conveniently sitting right there on the kitchen table where I was prepping the basket...it was just covered with newspaper, coupons, receipts, school letters...ya know all the stuff the kitchen table collects on a daily basis...and the card was the first thing I purchased right after Valentines Day..oh well, i'll just put it in her carseat so she thinks the easter bunny wanted her to have one last special gift:)

Well, we are finally at the age where I figured it was time to dye easter eggs. Yes, I didn't think 2 years old would be great...3 a better age. But I realized how anal I can be making sure no one mixes from dark to light colors...so next year Grace and her dad will get what that means LOL

It was quite fun and think daddy had the most fun putting the toy story wraparound things on the eggs.

Live Band

On Saturday afternoon, we headed to the D Note a local pizza place that holds live music. A couple of times a month they do a toddler concert. This particular day the band played all Beatles tunes. It was a fun outing. Hoping we can attend more of these little concerts. Grace and her best buddie Katie, danced the afternoon away and scarfed down pizza afterwards.

Lookout Mountain Nature Center

Today we joined our friends, katie and her dad and Brody and his mom, at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. They have a great toddler program about nature on a monthly basis. This was our 2nd time up there but our first time for the program. The kids learned about eggs and how the birds hatch from them. They got to make a big birds nest out of straw and cardboard they had put all around the room for the kids to collect (just as birds do) to make their nest. Then the program leader gave them all huge eggs and the eggs hatched and out came a stuffed owl or bird and then they got to feed them. Grace learned a new phrase at school "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" so I conveniently reminded her of this as she wanted something else instead of what she got...she quieted down quite quickly (LOVE NUMC for that one)...anyways, they continued with stations around the room for the kids to explore, went for a little walk with binoculars to look for nests they planted in trees, came back read a story and sang a song...all in 45 minutes. It was all very educational and FUN:)

Grace passed her swim class. She can now move up to a new class with 6 year olds...kind of crazy!! On the last day, Mr. Jacob let them go on the robe swing in the 9 ft pool...yeah this pool scares me...but she LOVES it!!

We are sad Mr Jacob does not teach the next level...so hoping we get a great teacher again!!

Grace has finally mastered pedaling forward. So now we have to go on many trike rides in the neighborhood on a daily basis. Hey its great to barter with when I need her to sit down and eat, clean up her toys or take a nap:) We are getting to know more of our neighbors and hoping that I can befriend some of the young teenage girls so that I have a sitter in the neighborhood.

In a few months we can get her new bicycle...we went to look at one today and showed her a cute Hello Kitty (didn't point out princess) one and she rode it in circles and didn't want to get off

As much as we've tried to shelter her from any disney princess stuff (crap) I seriously think it is born in their blood to go through this. We have never bought a princess costume (she was given one for her 2nd birthday from a friend) and she didn't know what it was...now she has always loved dressing up in costumes...but now we are heavily into princesses. If you can tell, these pics are not taken at our house because we don't own these costumes...she does want a trunk of princess costumes that they sell at target and told her if she cleaned up her room for a month, that i would reward her with the trunk of costumes...so far that $25 is safe in my checking account as we are on day 3 of a really messy room

Way back in January, we day tripped it up to Estes Park...it was a free day at the National Park:) Best part of the trip...finding an awesome pie shop...not really a pie person and really not a fan of rhubarb...but the strawberry rhubarb pie was delicious...and since it was so long ago HAHA I can't remember the name of it

It was a very misleading day in the weather...the town was bright, sunny and a tad warm...the park however was the complete opposite..cold, windy and a little snowy

oh how the girl loves stuffed animals...and tho we would have loved to have bought that giant giraffe the girl has a whole zoo collection in her bedroom...we just don't need anymore

Thanks to the city of Westminster. Every year residents have and opportunity to have Santa come to visit at your home on the fire truck. My friends and I all put our names in and pretty much we all get the opportunity. The last 2 years I have given up our Santa and we go over to our friends in the same neighborhood. And then we hit our other friends homes the next few days.

Well that's what we would be saying if we still lived in San Jose...For many many years I have supported my husband in going to almost every basketball game at San Jose State. Now that we live in Colorado, his love for college sports hasn't gone away it just we need to go to new colleges to get his fix. So he is very excited by the news that University of Denver AKA DU is joining the WAC Western Athletic Conference...and well, his San Jose Spartans will be coming to Colorado for basketball!!

We took Grace to her first basketball game at DU a few weeks ago...and well it had been a long time since I had gone to a game and well, had a little trouble on who to root for...as I really didn't care since neither of these teams we too familiar to me...and I didn't know at the time a close girlfriend went to the visiting school Cal State Northridge...so really could have rooted for them.

Anyways, we have lots of basketball games in our future...as I am sure we will become season ticket holders:)

Birthday Party

Well, we finally made it to Donald Van Arsdale Gymnastics Center...this was a repeated birthday party location from last year but didn't get to go since Grace fell ill that weekend...and well, we almost had the same scare again this year!!

All the girls and one boy had a great time, jumping in the foam pit, jumping on the trampoline and having a fun time with eachother. We have sooo many girls in our group of friends that this is a rare occasion for all of Grace's friends in one place. It was definately a gaggle of fun.

The kids played an hour in the gym with 2 really nice instructors and then we all had lunch and mini cupcakes in the party room. Best bang for your buck!! This may be a standard for Grace's future birthday parties. She loves gymnastics, I think more than dance class. Always asking to go to gymnastics. She'll be signed up in January. Taking a break from classes for the moment.

Soccer...for her!

So after hearing a close friend enrolled her daughter in soccer, I rounded up the rest of the gang to sign up for soccer, because that's what we do..yes, also called jumping on the band wagon. This is suppose to be a daddy thing...meaning the dads were to take them Saturday morning. Eric was and still is more than happy to take his child to soccer as I get to work every other Saturday. But this weekend i got the opportunity to take her since both our cars broke down this week due to batteries needed to be changed...and hubby's also needed a new alternator on top of that. So after last weekends soccer attempt didn't go so well, she was a bit tired as she said, so they left early. I on the other hand, think of dollar signs wasted when the girl doesn't participate or doesn't listen to the coach or teacher...lets just say if I am there, she REALLY listens, participates and doesn't come whining to me...I am not the push over MOM. She knows if she is not listening to the teacher we leave, if she continues to be disruptive we leave and so on...yeah I mean business...dad is a push over!! Anyways, G did real well and we even practiced a bit this evening with one of her soccer drills (red light green light) and told her the goal was the tv stand so she kept kicking the ball trying to make a goal..very cute!! I think I see soccer in her future or at least in the spring:)
